Undergraduate Program

The Department offers the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) degree program which is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The curriculum builds upon foundation courses common to a traditional engineering freshman year. During the sophomore year, students complete the required mathematics sequence with calculus and matrix algebra, and their science courses with calculus-based physics.

Junior-year courses introduce analysis tools, techniques for decision-making and provide experience in designing solutions to open-ended problems. A seminar focuses on contemporary topics and ethics. Senior-year courses extend the junior-year knowledge and skills. The Engineering Design Internship draws upon all previous design and analysis experience for a team-based, real-world project.

The curriculum prepares students for the Fundamentals of Engineering examination, administered by the Tennessee State Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners, the first step in preparation for professional licensure. Students who pass the exam while enrolled in the program are reimbursed for the costs of the exam by the Department's Industrial Advisory Board.
