Successful ABET Visit

Beginning on October 19 and culminating on October 21, the College of Engineering at Tennessee Tech University hosted a successful ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accreditation review. Program Evaluators from across the country converged on campus to evaluate each of the undergraduate degree programs in engineering.

As we expected, the strengths of the industrial engineering program, as cited by our Program Evaluator, are the enthusiasm of our students and the high level of engagement in the program by program graduates. As a result of the visit, our industrial engineering program is now a target program for recruiting graduate students to Clemson University. Also cited as a model to be considered by other engineering programs was work by the faculty on the assessment processes for undergraduate engineering education.

Mr. Terry Warren, Mr. Larry Smith, Mr. Will Taylor, and Mr. Clinton Thomas were IAB members who helped showcase the program. In addition, junior and senior students were interviewed by the Evaluator. There was an incredible effort by the IIE Student Chapter to help prepare for the visit.

Now that accreditation goals have been achieved we are returning to our business of continuous improvement in the program.
