Windows Frequently Asked Questions and
Answers
1. WinQVT/Net displays a message, "Console Log file is too large" and asks me if it's OK to delete it.
Choose Delete. This log file is created automatically by WinQVT/Net 3.x and stores information about telnet sessions. It can be deleted without affecting any operations in WinQVT/Net.
2. When I try to log onto the VAX, I get a message from WinQVT/Net saying "Unable to register window class."
Sometimes re-running the WinQVT/Net icon (usually located in the Startup group) will fix this, but most of the time, you must exit Windows and Reboot the computer.
3. When running WordPerfect for Windows, I get the following error - "Shared Code Error: Unable to run C:\WPC20\MSWIN20.EXE /I-US/#"
Rename the file C:\WINDOWS\WPCSET.BIF to C:\WINDOWS\WPCSET.OLD If you still get errors when trying start WordPerfect, delete C:\WPWIN\TEMPLATES\STANDARD.WPT The first file is the preferences file that WordPerfect reads and saves every time you run it. The second is the default document settings (used whenever you create a new document). Sometimes they get corrupted and have to be removed so that WordPerfect can create new ones (from the factory default settings). The down side of this fix is that any special preference settings that were made will have to be redone.
4. When I try to open an FTP connection to Gemini using WS_FTP, I get the message "logon failure, so quitting."
Most of the time, this message is caused by a command or two in your LOGIN.COM file on the VAX that generate errors during network logins such as FTP. To fix this, make the following line the first line in your LOGIN.COM file:
$ if f$mode() .nes. "INTERACTIVE" then
exit
