Username:

Type your username and press [Enter].
Type your password and press [Enter].

Your username will be the same as it was for the PC Lab Account, but you will now be logging into Gemini

To send a message:

For example, to send a message to another student, Jane Q. Smithsonian, whose user name is jqsmithson21:

    MAIL> send

    Subject: Class Assignment

In VMS Mail, to send email off campus through the internet you must use the special syntax:

Type your message in the EVE editor. Just start typing at the [End of file] line and your message will appear above it.

To send your message, press CTRL + Z (hold the Ctrl key and type Z).

In the PC labs, to cancel without sending:

To read a message in VMS Mail:

    MAIL> read/new

This will display any new messages that you have received on screen.

    MAIL> dir newmail

This will give you a directory listing of your new mail messages.

    MAIL> dir mail

This will give you a directory listing of the messages previously received. You may then type the number of a message you wish to reread, and it will be displayed on screen.

To reply to a message:

With the message to which you wish to reply on screen, type:

    MAIL> reply

This will invoke the EVE editor, and you will see the original message on your screen in EVE. Delete any extraneous text and type your reply. To send your message, press CTRL + Z. To cancel without sending, press CTRL + B or PF4 (minus sign on the numeric keypad in upper right corner), then type QUIT on the command line.

To save a message to a file:

With the message on screen that you want to extract to a file, type

    MAIL> extract filename.extension
