Free Download of the Week from the Classical Music Library: Chopin's 3 Mazurkas, Op. 59
The Mazurka is a Polish folk dance in triple time from the province of Mazovia. Instances of the Mazurka in art music tend to vary considerably in style, though they share common rhythmic traits such as strong accents on the second or third beat. Chopin's composition of more than 50 examples firmly established it in the concert hall, though few composers have followed him in this regard. The Op. 59 Marzurkas were composed in 1845 and are highly developed examples of the genre.
This recording is performed by Abdel Rahman El Bacha, pianist.
Download this work now through September 18th, 2008.
