Departments

Acquisitions

Acquisitions is the department responsible for purchasing books and media for the Volpe Library's collection. Upon receipt, items are sent to Bibliographic Control, Media, or Government Publications for processing. Although we try to buy material as quickly as possible, the process can take several months. If you cannot wait, please contact Interlibrary Loan.

Interlibrary Loan

The function of the Interlibrary Loan Department is to support the research needs of TTU faculty, staff, and students by borrowing from other libraries those materials which the Angelo and Jennette Volpe Library does not own. It also lends materials located here to other libraries for the information needs of their patrons.

Serials

Serials is the department responsible for managing the library's collection of magazines and periodicals. Find articles & databases subscribed/paid by the Volpe Library.

Requests for Purchases

Faculty members should submit requests through their departmental or college liaison. Students and staff should give their purchase suggestions to a librarian at the Information Desk.

Making a Request

Please search the Library Catalog to see if the library already owns the title. Provide as much of the following information about the item as you can:

  • Title
  • Author
  • ISBN (a 10 digit book identification number)
  • Edition
  • Specific volume number if applicable
  • Publisher (and place of publication if foreign)
  • Publication date

Checking Order Status

In the Online Catalog, if a title is on order in TTU's library, the "Locations/Holdings" box at the bottom of the screen headed "Full Record" displays this statement: TTU Acquisitions On Order. Occasionally, the following message will appear instead: The library currently has no holdings for this title. This may mean the title is ready to be ordered or that it has been ordered and cancelled for some reason. A librarian will help you find accurate order status information.

Academic Liaisons

Visit the Academic Liaisons page to find the person in your department you should contact so that the library may purchase materials for your department.
