- How do I find information on my topic?
A good place to start finding general information on your topic might be the subject reasearch guides. These list a wide variety of sources to get you started. Each entry has a brief annotation. If you don't see a research guide for your general topic, check back. More are being produced.
Check the databases available in your subect area by visiting the Magazine/Journal Databases by Subject page.
Consider other types of information sources besides journal or magazine articles, or books. There is also good information in the Library's government publications, audiovisuals, archives, and local history collections.
Ask for assistance at the Information Desk. It is staffed by professional librarians who are happy to help you get started. - How do I get materials from other libraries?
From the Library website, select the Interlibrary Loan link from Services. There are instructions for submitting the online form. Make sure the Angelo & Jennette Volpe Library does not have the material you are requesting. Note: it may take up to two weeks for you to receive the requested material. - How do I find magazine or journal articles?
From the Library website, “mouse over” the FIND button. Additional links appear to the right. Select Magazine & Journal Articles . A new screen opens up with three ways to search for magazine and journal articles to choose from: Search for Magazine or Journal articles in the Library Databases by alphabetical listing or by subject, Search for full text articles in Library Databases, and Articles in print magazines or journals located in the Library. - How do I find books?
Search the Library’s holdings of print and electronic books from our online public catalog located on the Library’s website at Library Catalog. The search result record screen has information on the location of the book in the Library. You need more than the call number! Make note of location information too. - How do I donate books?
Donations may be delivered to the Library Director's office, Dr. Winston Walden (WWalden@tntech.edu or 931-372-3408), room 214 in the Library. - How do I renew books that I have checked out?

If you are not on a campus computer, you will need a PC Lab Account username and password to access the library's electronic resources (online journals, databases, & books). If you do not know your username and password and you are a registered TTU student or a TTU employee or an RODP / Distance Education student: Activate PC Lab Account Username and Password. - How do I scan a document?
The library Media Center provides two scanners, one networked to a MAC, the other to a Dell. Media Center staff can assist those who need help. - How do I borrow a laptop?
The library Media Center provides laptops that can be checked out for four hours at a time for use in the library. No laptops are available for use outside the building. - How do I use my USB jump drive in the library?
All computers in the library have a USB port to use for your USB jump drive. Most of the ports are on the back of the PC tower. A few computers have USB ports on the side of the monitor. A good resource on how to use a jump drive can be found on the Wellesley College Information Services website. - How do I make a movie?
The library Media Center has cameras and tripods available for check out, and a multimedia studio for in-door settings. There are two digital editing systems available for editing, adding sound, captions and titles. Professional assistance is available. Call 931-372-3413 for an appointment. - How do I borrow from other Libraries?
From the Library website go to the link RODP/Distance Learning Borrowing Materials from other Libraries. There is an online form to fill out to receive a TALC card by mail or come to the Angelo & Jennette Volpe Library Administration in Room 214. You will need your Eagle Card. - How do I use the Online Databases from off campus?
From any computer with Internet access, go the Library website. Go to Magazine & Journal Articles link and select a Database. A new login screen should appear that asks for username and password. Enter your PCLab Username and Password. - How do I search the library catalog?
To open the library catalog, you can either click on the Catalog link at the top of any library website page or perform a keyword search on the library’s main page. For details on performing searches in the catalog, please visit the library catalog help page on searching the library catalog. - How do I make a suggestion about the library?
You can either write down your suggestion and put it in the suggestion box near the circulation desk on the second floor of the library or email April Crockett, Website Development Manager, at acrockett@tntech.edu with your suggestion. Gifts of monetary value for the Library may be made to either: The Friends of the Angelo and Jennette Volpe Library or The Library Support Endowment.
