Do I have to start the program in the Fall Semester?

While it is better to begin the program in the Fall Semester, you may elect to start in the Spring Semester. Summer courses are limited and it may be difficult to start during the summer. We try to keep a schedule of classes as current as possible.

Does it take longer to finish the program if I elect a concentration?

If your undergraduate degree was in a different area than the MBA track you choose, you may have to take some undergraduate courses in your area of concentration. An advisor can tell you exactly what you will have to take.

When I try to complete the Online Application, it asks for my PIN. What should I type?

Generally, the first time you begin an Online Application, you will create your PIN. When you come back to the application a second time, you will be queried for that PIN. If you have forgotten your PIN, you can call the Graduate Admissions Office at 931-372-3233. They will be happy to provide that PIN number to you.

I have lots of management experience, do I still need to take the GMAT?

Yes. Ours is a general management MBA program and has not been structured as an Executive or Professional MBA. Therefore, for accreditation purposes, we cannot give GMAT credit for prior work experience.

I took the GMAT several years ago, do I have to take it again?

We require an "official" copy of your GMAT scores to consider you for admission to the MBA program at Tennessee Tech. GMAT only keeps those scores on file for five years. After that time, they purge their files and you will be unable to get an "official" copy of your scores from them. If however, we have an "official" copy of your scores on file here at Tennessee Tech (perhaps from an earlier application), we can use those old scores.

I took the GRE, do I still need to take the GMAT?

Even though there may be some similarities between the GRE and the GMAT, the terms of our AACSB accreditation require that we use the GMAT.

Can I check my grades online?

Students may view and/or print a copy of semester grades from the Eagle Online Information System. TTU no longer routinely mails out grade reports.

When I tried to access Eagle Online, it asked for my Student ID and my PIN. What are my Student ID and my PIN?

Your Student ID is your Social Security Number. Your PIN is a 6-digit code that allows you access to Eagle Online. If you have forgotten your PIN, you can find instructions for obtaining it at Eagle Online.

The system will automatically e-mail your PIN to your TTU e-mail address. You can access your TTU e-mail address by going to www.tntech.edu and clicking on Student Inbox.

How do I get started with the MBA classes?

Please see this document for information on how to get started your first semester. This document has information about passwords, course content requests, and initial login to our course management system.

How long will it take me to complete my campus-based MBA at Tennessee Tech?

Full-time students can complete the MBA in one year once all prerequisites have been met. Part-time students usually complete the program in two years.

What are my chances of getting financial aid or an assistantship?

Two-thirds of all students at Tennessee Tech receive some form of financial aid. The Office of MBA Studies has applications for assistantships as well as other scholarships available to graduate students. Generally, the earlier we receive your application the more likely you will be to receive financial support.

What is the placement rate for your MBA?

The key to placement is flexibility. We generally place all MBAs who are seriously looking for a position. In addition to help from the MBA office, the University has a central office of Career Services that may prove helpful in your search. We encourage you to start thinking about placement as soon as you are on campus.

Is housing available on campus?

Yes, the office of Residential Life has detailed information about the cost and location of married and single housing on campus. It is a good idea to apply early for on-campus housing.

How does the distance-based program work?

The Distance MBA at TTU brings together two powerful technologies, CDROM content delivery and Internet-based class interaction. Together, these two technologies provide students with a very rich learning environment that is both flexible and value-added.

Many courses offer a set of CDs. The CDs contain the lecture content that the faculty members would normally present in the classroom . . . with one very important difference. The Distance-based course content is created in a special studio right on our campus. Each of the short lecture media elements are created just for the distance-based program using state-of-the-art digital technology in a studio constructed just for the creation of this material. In addition, the lectures are broken down into small pieces that are easily searched and re-viewed whenever you want to go back and take another look at any of the material.

These CD's may be requested any time, but will be mailed the week before classes begin. The content is ALSO available for download and for viewing online.

Request Course CD's here.

Click here to see the help document for new and current students. This document tells you how to find your username, change your initial password, log in to iLearn and gives some contact information for additional assistance.

How does the class interaction work?

The class interaction is accomplished by use of an internet-based class management program called iLearn (powered by Desire2Learn). You simply log onto our website (http://ilearn.tntech.edu) using your assigned username and password, and you are taken to a page with all of the information about the courses that you are taking. For each course in which you are registered, there will be a link. On the webpage for each course, there will be tools for activities such as course email, threaded discussions for course case studies, links to online quizzes and exams, a course calendar, and course chat rooms. In addition, there are links to course content areas that contain Powerpoint presentations that you can download or print, documents that your instructor might want you to read, and assignments.

What is the profile of the distance-based students?

Most distance-based students work full-time and many are married and have families. Many have been in the work force for a number of years. Distance-based MBA students have a variety of undergraduate degrees, business and non-business.

Can I start my distance-based coursework at any time?

You can start distance-based coursework at any time-Fall, Spring, or Summer. Distance-based courses run on a semester schedule, just as on-campus courses do. The Fall semester begins in mid-August and ends in early December. The Spring semester begins in early January and ends in early May. Summer courses usually run from the beginning of June to the end of July.

What will my diploma look like?

The campus-based and distance-based programs earn the same degree. The diploma will not indicate that you have taken distance-based courses. You will have the same courses, the same professors, and the same diploma as campus-based students.

Can I get Financial Aid for the distance-based program?

Please direct financial aid questions to the Financial Aid office. Generally, the DMBA courses do qualify for financial aid, though you will need to take a minimum of six credit hours of course-work a semester in order to qualify.

I work for the state of Tennessee, will the state cover my tuition?

The state will cover the cost of in-state tuition for State of Tennessee Employees. However, the differential of the cost between campus-based and distance-based courses is not covered by the state reimbursement plan.

Can I register for my distance-based courses online?

You can register for your next semester courses online using Eagle Online.

You will need two numbers to register; your PIN and your Registration Access Code (RAC). Your PIN is the same PIN you used to log on to Eagle Online. Your RAC changes each semester and you will need to call Barbara Glasscock at 931-372-6404 to obtain your RAC.

When registering for distance-based MBA courses, remember to only register for the courses with section number M10. All distance-based MBA courses have a section number M10. All other section numbers are for on-campus courses.

Who does NOT need to take the Pre-MBA Foundation Modules?

Generally, most students who have an undergraduate business degree from an AACSB-accredited college or university will be exempt from taking the Pre-MBA Foundation Modules. However, an evaluation of your transcript is still necessary.

Who needs to take the Pre-MBA Foundation Modules?

Students who received an undergraduate business degree from a college or university that is not accredited by the AACSB will often need to take one or more of the Pre-MBA Foundation Modules.

Students who have an undergraduate degree in an area other than business (regardless of accreditation) will most likely need to take several of the Pre-MBA Foundation Modules.

How do I find out which Pre-MBA Foundation Modules I need to take?

We evaluate the transcript of every MBA applicant to determine which competency requirements, if any, the applicant needs to complete in order to be admitted to the MBA Program. You should follow these steps:

Obtain a copy of your undergraduate transcript. (For purposes of this review, we only require a copy of your transcript in the College of Business Administration. However, it is important to remember that the Office of Graduate Admissions requires an "OFFICIAL" copy of your transcript for purposes of your admission application). You can obtain a copy of your transcript from the registrar's office at your undergraduate institution. If you received your undergraduate degree from Tennessee Tech, you should indicate that in your cover letter and provide us with your Social Security Number so that we can access your transcript on the Student Information System.

Prepare a cover letter explaining your intention to apply to the MBA program and your request to have your transcript reviewed to determine which Pre-MBA Foundation Modules you need to take. The letter should clearly include your name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, and signature.

Fax your transcript copy and your cover letter to 931-372-6544, in care of Dr. Bob Wood, or mail your transcript copy and cover letter to:
