| Rapid
Prototyping Laboratory
Prototyping is very important in any design and manufacturing
facility. MIT students can obtain their real 3D models using the
Rapid Prototyping Laboratory in a very short period of time. The
newly developed rapid prototyping laboratory is equipped with a
Z-Corporation Z406 premium
high-speed full-color 3D-printing system. This piece
of equipment was acquired through a recent NSF DUE grant # DUE-0311586
for a total budget of $50,351 and TTU cost sharing of the amount
of $35,150 + $11,000.00 discount by the Z Corporation.
MIT students as well as other engineering students
expressed excitement about the new system and started immediately
using it in the MIT 3060 - CNC Machining Practice, MIT 3300 - CAD
for Technology, and MIT 4300 - Advanced CAD Techniques. The RP-Lab
also supports the MIT 4620 - Industrial Projects and MIT 4990 -
Special Problem courses.
