Dr. Carol Ventura began teaching in the Department of Music and
Art in 1994.
Her academic background includes art history, ceramics, fiber art,
photography, and printmaking. As the only art historian at TTU, Carol
teaches
a wide variety of classes. Her special area of interest, however,
is craft
history. Her research at home and abroad has been supported by the
US
Department of State, Fulbright, Fulbright – Hays, the National
Endowment for
the Humanities, the Smithsonian National Museum of American Art,
Spain’s
Ministry of Culture, and TTU.
Carol’s scholarly papers have been published in Ancient Mesoamerica,
Archaeoastronomy, Ars Textrina, and the Journal of Ethnobiology.
Her articles
can be found in American Lutherie, Anvil’s Ring, Bead & Button,
Beadwork,
Crochet Fantasy, Crochet World, Ceramic Review, FiberArts, Ornament,
PieceWork, Shuttle Spindle & Dypot, Whispering Wind, and Woodcarving
Magazine.
Carol’s books include Maya Hair Sashes Backstrap Woven in Jacaltenango
and
More Tapestry Crochet.
Besides teaching art appreciation and art history in the classroom,
Carol has
led several groups to Europe over Spring Break to “see the
real thing.” Carol
is also an exhibiting artist.
