Director of Piano Studies
at TTU, Catherine Godes began her musical studies in NYC at the age
of four. She received the BM and Masters Degrees form West Virginia
University, where she studied with renowned pianist Herman Godes.
The 2 eventually married and formed the Godes Piano Duo. They toured
throughout the country and taped several programs for PBS. She continued
her studies at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where she was
a student of Israeli pianist David Bar-Ilan and received the Doctorate
in Musical Arts and Performance.Two years on the faculty of Fairmont
University in West Virginia were followed by the appointment to head
the Community Music Program at West Virgina University where Godes
designed a curriculum for over 400 students. She also established
piano classes for children and adults.
Dr. Godes established herself as a prominent soloist, collaborative
artist and clinician. In 1993 she joined the faculty at TTU, and
has been active as a performer and teacher. Many of her students
have won major competitions throughout the region, and have continued
piano studies at the graduate level. As a board member of the Tennessee
Music Teachers Association, Godes serves as the collegiate auditions
chair. She is also the founder of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra Pre
concert lecture series. She frequently presents master classes both
at Tech and throughout the region.
