Dan
Allcott is the conductor
of the University Orchestra and the Bryan Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Allcott
was appointed Assistant Professor and Director of Orchestras in the
fall of 2003.
He underwent his formal conducting studies with veteran opera conductor
Imre Pallo at Indiana University, where he has completed his coursework
towards his Doctorate in Music. In the fall 1996, Mr. Allcott was
appointed the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's Schmitt Conducting
Fellow, a position he held for three years. In 1998, Mr. Allcott
was named the first Herbert von Karajan Fellow of the American Austrian
Foundation at the Salzburg Festival and has been a participant in
the Nicolai Malko and Grzegorz Fitelberg competitions in Europe.
He has conducted in master classes with Michael Tilson Thomas and
Gunther Schuller with the American Symphony Orchestra League and
the Conductors' Guild.
Maestro Allcott was previously Associate Conductor/Director of Education
for the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and Music Director of the
Columbus Youth Orchestra. Allcott nurtured a start-up after school
string program into a string ensemble and Youth Orchestra including
students from a 3 county area. He also led the “Phil’s
Family Jam” pre-concert program for families. Allcott conducted
the “Adventure Concert” series for 3rd and 4th graders
and grew its participation to include a 5 county area in South Central
Indiana.
Maestro Allcott retains his position as Music Director with Atlanta
Ballet where he has conducted over 150 performances since joining
the company in Fall 2000. In addition to traditional ballet scores,
he has led musical collaborations with the Indigo Girls, the New
Birth Missionary Baptist Church Choir, the Red Clay Ramblers, the
Michael O'Neal Singers and the Atlanta Youth Choirs.
Mr. Allcott is an accomplished cellist and holds cello performance
degrees from Indiana University and Drake University.
