Frederick Kennedy studied at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory
of
Music, where he earned a Bachelor and Master of Music Degree in
piano
performance with a voice minor. While there he studied piano with
Herbert Newman and voice with Franklin Bens. Other voice teachers
have
included Andrew Field, Benjamin Matthews, and Jeannine Philippe.
Kennedy has studied operatic interpretation with Italo Tajo, Blanche
Thebom, and John Alexander. He has studied at the Boris Goldovsky
Oglebay Opera Institute and has participated in master classes
with
Eleanor Steber, John Alexander, and George London. Kennedy also
holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in choral conducting from
the
Cincinnati College-Conservatory.
In the field of opera, this lyric tenor has performed with the
Santa Fe Opera, Chattanooga Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Nashville
Opera, and Graz Opera Opera companies. His concert appearances
have included performances with the St. Louis Bach Society, the
Nashville Symphony, the Cincinnati Symphony, the Brazilian Symphony,
and the Atlanta Symphony under such notable conductors as James
Levine, Robert Shaw, Thomas Schippers, and Anton Guadagno. Kennedy
has appeared in the role of Camille in Lehar’s operetta Die
lustige Witwe with Operafestival di Roma in Rome, Italy
Other successes have been his New York recital debut in Weill
Hall at Carnegie Hall. In 1995 Kennedy was personally invited to
the Xian Conservatory of Music - the ShaanXi Province of The Peoples
Republic of China. His ten day stay included lectures on American
vocal music, master classes, and a recital.
Kennedy’s CD - Art Song Heritage of the Americas - was
released by CRS. He received glowing reviews in the American Record
Review, Society News, and the NATS Journal for his perfomace in
this relaease.. Other concert engagements, in addition to master
classes, have included various colleges and concert halls throughout
the United States.
Kennedy is presently professor of voice at Tennessee Technological
University in Cookeville, TN.
