Music Licensure Information
1. Bachelor of Music students seeking state licensure to teach music
pursue an emphasis in one of two areas: Instrumental Licensure (band,
orchestra or classroom general music teacher) or Vocal/General Licensure
(choral director or classroom general music teacher). The Bachelor
of Music degree options in composition, instrumental performance,
jazz studies, piano performance, or vocal performance do not meet
the requirements for teacher licensure. The current Undergraduate
Catalog lists semester-by-semester curricular tabs for both licensure
programs.
2. The music licensure major must pass the Praxis I Examination,
Academic Skills Assessment [PPST]), before enrolling in upper division

the examination in the Spring Semester of the first year. A student

ACT Composite Score of 22 or a re-centered SAT score of 1020. Registration
