Welcome to the Tennessee Technological University Whitson-Hester School of Nursing homepage! We appreciate your interest in our School and encourage you to explore the links provided to learn more about the study of Nursing at Tennessee Technological University.

The student group is diverse and consists of students seeking the nursing degree for their initial career, students entering nursing for a career change, current RNs seeking a Master’s degree in nursing, and RNs returning to school for the baccalaureate degree. Interacting with such a diverse group of students and a faculty with a broad range of experience and interests provides opportunity for the personal and intellectual development needed for the student preparing for the role of the professional nurse.

National Certified Nurses Day - March 19, 2014

The Whitson-Hester School of Nursing celebrates its faculty on National Certified Nurses Day. Over 70% of the nursing faculty holds nationally recognized certification through 6 different certifying organizations in 10 different areas of professional nursing practice. To obtain a certification, nurses complete additional education, training, and time in clinical practice, specified by the certifying organization and beyond minimum education, training, and practice requirements. In addition, continuous education, training, and clinical practice is required to maintain these certifications. We congratulate the following faculty for these distinctive areas of certification:

Dr. Kim Hanna - Board Certified Nurse Leader (CNL)

Professor Jennifer Mabry - Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)

Professor Tammy Howard - Board Certified Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP-BC); RNC-OB

Professor Susan Clark - Board Certified Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP); Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)

Dr. Melissa Geist - Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP); Certified Nurse Educator (CNE)
