New Student Orientation

The half-day Spring 2012 New Student Orientation session on January 11, 2012 is a wonderful opportunity to become familiar with Tennessee Tech's campus, faculty, staff and students. During your time on campus students will meet with representatives from TTU’s Financial Aid, Bursar (Business Office), and Scholarship offices to discuss tuition and fees. Students will also meet with departmental faculty and register for classes (if necessary).

*Students must arrange this meeting for registration and advisement prior to arriving at New Student Orientation. Please refer to the Academic Department List for advisor contact information.

Below is a brief outline of the half-day New Student Orientation session for students and their guest(s). Students and guests will receive a detailed itinerary at check-in.

*Please be aware that lunch is NOT provided. Attendees need to arrive fed and ready to participate.

  •    New Student Orientation Check-In begins at 12:00 pm central time
  •    Opening Meeting
  •    Informational sessions
  •    Free Time (this will allow students to handle any necessary items while on campus)

*Please plan to be here until 4:30 pm central time. If registering for the upcoming semester, times may vary based on academic departments so we ask students and guests to plan accordingly.

What to Bring

All students and guests attending New Student Orientation should consider bringing the following items:

  • comfortable clothing and walking shoes
  • umbrella
  • pencil/pen
  • notebook/writing pad
  • required documentation for I-9 Card IF working on campus (for more information click here)*
  • totebag to carry around orientation materials
  • checkbook (to purchase items while on campus)
  • snacks and water

Student Account Holds

Prior to your New Student Orientation session you may be contacted to resolve the following items (or holds) on your account. We encourage each student to resolve these matters prior to their orientation session to prevent any problems with their admittance or course registration. *If you have already registered for full-time status (12 hours or more) then please ignore these items.

  • Selective Service Hold - Currently, the United States Government requires all male students 18 years or older to register with the Selective Service. If you are male and checked 'No' regarding this registration on your application for admission but are now 18 years old, then check your Tech email for instructions. For more information please visit http://www.sss.gov/.
  • Student Health Form (please fill out the biographical information). Health History is not required, but encouraged in case you are ever treated in Health Services. Photocopies of official medical records are an acceptable replacement for signatures on this form. The MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella Vaccine) section is ONLY required for out-of-state and homeschooled students.The Varicella (Chicken Pox) section is a new state law that requires all new students to have one of the following: documentation of 2 Varicella immunizations, documentation of immunity, or documentation of a past history of the disease.
  • Hepatitis/Meningitis Waiver Form - If you are 17 and under at the time you attend New Student Orientation. Your parent or legal guardian is required to complete and sign both sections of this form  .
  • Housing Application - Required if student lives outside of the 50 mile radius from the University and has not been exempt. For more information visit http://www.tntech.edu/reslife/.

TTU Student ID (Eagle Card)

Students that are attending New Student Orientation will be taking their college I.D. picture immediately following check-in, so please dress the way you wish to be displayed on your I.D. *Students must bring a valid photo I.D. to have their Eagle Card made.

*Students that will be working on campus will need to obtain an I-9 card, Employment Eligibility Verification Form.  You will not be able to pick up your work assignment or start working until the process is complete. It’s suggested that you complete this process while visiting campus so please refer to the Frequently Asked Question section on the Human Resources website for details on how to complete the I-9 process. The HR office is located on the 1st Floor of Derryberry Hall Room 146.
