Dr. Stephens assists the chief executive officer in accomplishing goals of the University's central academic division. He supervises the operation of the Appalachian Center for Crafts and collaborates with the College of Education with regard to the implementation of the Art Education and Fine Arts degree programs. He supervises the operations of the International Student Affairs and Career Services Offices, oversees the Performance Funding Program and institutional effectiveness efforts, serves as the University's administrator with regard to space utilization, supervises the process of student evaluation of faculty and the University's faculty development programs, assists the Vice President and Provost when necessary regarding such issues as tenure and promotion, personnel, etc. In addition, Dr. Stephens supervises the University's self-study efforts for accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
