TSSAA Special Event Parking
The TSSAA high school football championship series games will be hosted on our campus Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5, 6 and 7, and faculty, students and staff will see one major change in parking arrangements this year.
You will see parking teams monitoring lots and collecting money on the perimeter of campus. For instance, teams will be stationed at 7th Street if you are entering on Peachtree. Visitors will pay a TSSAA parking fee, but all faculty, staff and students with university hangtags will be waived through.
"We appreciate everyone on campus allowing us to host this event," said Melinda Keifer, a member of the event steering committee. "We simply couldn't do it without student organizations and individual students volunteering. They are great ambassadors for your campus, and this event would not be successful without their efforts."
The campus community is encouraged to make alternate plans about arriving and parking on campus during the Thursday and Friday sessions. Organizers say that all parking lots and spaces on the stadium side of University Drive will be converted to paid or reserved parking during the event. This area extends from Walton House to beyond the baseball stadium and north to 12th Street. It will include the large lots behind the library and between the Hooper Eblen Center and Tucker Stadium, as well as areas around Johnson, Foster and Bryan Fine Arts buildings. Students: Parking may be limited. Areas marked in gray on this map http://www.tntech.edu/images/stories/police/tssaa_parking_map.pdf
will not be available to you during the event. However, all remaining faculty/staff lots will be available to students as open parking with your current student parking permit on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 5 and 6.
Faculty/Staff: Faculty and staff are encouraged to park in the Foundation Hall lot, carpool or park off-campus and take advantage of the CATS bus routes. The Cookeville First Baptist Church, located .9 miles from campus at 100 S. Walnut Ave., has extended use of their gravel parking lot to anyone in the campus community who would like to park a vehicle and carpool or walk. The FBC lot is located on the corner of S. Walnut Avenue and Spring Street. CATS buses will also stop at the FBC lot with flag down on the regular route. www.uchra.com/cats/GrnPurpSchd.htm.
Purrfect information about CATS: You might find that the CATS system will allow you to skip the hassle of finding a parking space on Thursday and Friday. Check out the route schedule at www.uchra.com/cats/GrnPurpSchd.htm. CATS is extending service hours until 10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday on that route. On Saturday, CATS will run both routes from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Where Not to Park
Please park in permit areas only. Please do not park on the grass, in fire lanes or other areas not normally designated as parking. Handicap parking will still require a designated handicap tag. Do not block service or mail spots.
Also, please do not park in the Collegeside Church of Christ parking lot because there are scheduled events on Thursday and Friday at that location.
