The First Lady

Chorale-DB-outsideKari Oldham is Tennessee Tech University’s newest advocate, working alongside her husband, Phil, to promote TTU in the community, across the region and around the country. Kari values the town and gown relationship, viewing it as critical to any university’s mission. As first lady, she looks forward to serving students, faculty, staff and community partners.

Kari is a first generation graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught in Mississippi public schools for a few years before having children. Placing a priority on her own family, she has also found time to routinely support local schools as a volunteer. Kari and Phil have been active in a variety of church and community organizations. Kari has co-chaired fundraising committees and has been heavily involved in service organizations including Junior Auxiliary, PTA and the Arts Council.

As hostess of Walton House, the president’s residence, Kari will welcome visiting dignitaries and TTU students, alumni and staff to the home throughout the year. Traditionally, the president and first lady host numerous holiday celebrations, faculty and staff receptions and alumni gatherings at Walton House.
