New Director Named for Campus Polic

Gay Shepherd, former interim director of Tennessee Technological University's campus police, has taken over the position of director of Safety & Security. Shepherd replaces former director Alex Robinson who retired in July 1996.

"As the interim director, Ms. Shepherd has already exhibited an extraordinary dedication, not only to Tennessee Tech, but to her profession," Marc Burnett, vice president for Student Affairs, said.

Joining the campus police in 1979, Shepherd has made many efforts in public safety. She gives talks on safety to campus groups and works with the Cookeville Police Department and the District Attorney General's Office. Shepherd participates in the district attorney's child abuse prevention program and also serves on the board of directors and as a special agent for the 13th Judicial District Drug Task Force.

Shepherd, an alumnus of Tennessee Tech's associate-level criminal justice program and the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy, can also add to her accomplishments winning the Outstanding Professional Award and the Outstanding Staff Award from Tennessee Tech.
