Plans Developing for Fourth Annual Autumn Bacchanal

The fourth annual Autumn Bacchanal, a gala fund-raising event to support the arts at Tennessee Technological University, will once again celebrate wine, food, and art. The event will be held at Spankie's Restaurant on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 1-5 p.m. with the auction beginning at 2 p.m.

The Autumn Bacchanal was established in 1995 to raise funds in support of the arts at Tennessee Tech. The event will include an exciting auction of original works of art donated by regional artists. Available artwork will be exhibited in the Bryan Fine Arts building reception gallery through Oct. 16 and will be previewed on WCTE/Channel 22 the week of Oct. 12.

All proceeds from the Bacchanal will fund the "Festival of the Arts" scholarship and program development at Tennessee Tech. Last year's Bacchanal raised $15,000 through the auction, donations, and ticket sales.

Brenda Smith, one of the Autumn Bacchanal coordinators, calls the event "special due to the tremendous amount of support from the campus as well as the surrounding community."

The underwriters of this year's scholarship include Averitt Express, Inc.; B&G Wholesalers, Inc.; Dr. James L. Smith, DDS; and The Swallows-Newman Agency. Sponsors include Jesse Kaufman Associates, Spankie's Restaurant and Spring Creek Pie Company.

Tickets are $25 per person through Friday, Oct. 16, and $30 on the day of the event. A commemorative wine glass will be presented to each guest, and valet parking will be provided. For reservations call 931/372-3161.
