Mary Heather Maynard, a Tennessee Tech University student from Allons, Tenn., has been selected for a four-month cooperative education, or co-op assignment with Walt Disney World.

During an assignment that began in January, Maynard is part of Disney's magic by being a cast member in Fantasy, Magic Kingdom, in Orlando, Fla.

"The co-op program is an excellent way for students to gain the type of experience that will give them an edge in the job market," said Don Foster, associate director of the Office of Career Services. "In addition to helping students grow and improve their capabilities, co-op also provides income that can be used to help pay for college studies."

Tennessee Tech co-op students currently earn between $10.50 and $20 per hour and major in business, engineering, arts/sciences, and education. The university's co-op program began in 1959 and has experienced record student participation during recent semesters. Tennessee Tech's co-op office works with more than 100 employers across the Southeast – from business to industry and government agencies – to match students' interests with co-op openings.

Maynard, daughter of Mike and Donna Maynard, is a 2007 graduate of Livingston Academy. She is currently studying education at Tennessee Tech University.
