‘Aqueous’ exhibit at Craft Center
Ian Whitt’s senior thesis exhibition “Aqueous” is on display April 20 through April 27 in the North Windows Gallery of the Appalachian Center for Craft. A reception is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 23.
Whitt grew up in southern Mississippi and he studied glass blowing for a year and a half at the New Orleans School of Glassworks and Printmaking before coming to the Appalachian Center for Craft. Whitt’s exhibition is based on the inherent qualities of glass and water and how they relate to each other.
“The goal of my work is to freeze glass in its most liquid state to look like water in motion, therefore capturing a motion or gesture forever,” he said. The exhibition will consist of a series of ocean waves, waterfalls and a wall installation.
The Appalachian Center for Craft is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273 (Smithville /McMinnville). Go south on Highway 56; turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Craft Center. The gallery is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
