Argentine tango trio, dancers to perform at TTU
- An Argentine tango group will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in Derryberry Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
During a trip to Argentina last spring, TTU Spanish professor Marketta Laurila and some of her students saw the group perform. She was already working to bring them to campus.
“When we met them, the students took a tango class and it was one of the highlights of our trip,” said Laurila, who is also a competitive ballroom dancer. “Their performances are a great combination of music, dance and culture.”
The Eduardo Tami Tango Trio is comprised of a flutist, guitar player and keyboard player. The form of tango they play is a blend of the Argentine traditions and new interpretations and is different from the type of tango made popular on shows like “Dancing with the Stars.”
The performance is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by TTU’s Center Stage.
