Bacchanal 2007 set for Oct. 28 at Spankies Restaurant

Dust off your bid cards — it’s time for Bacchanal 2007.

Final plans are being made for this year’s celebration of art, wine and food that will be hosted by Spankies Restaurant in Cookeville on Sunday, Oct. 28.

Guests can sample foods from a decadent cocktail buffet and partake of wine and beer tastings while enjoying jazz music by John Richards and experiencing the exciting live auction of art and fine craft in support of scholarships for Tennessee Tech University’s art students.

The Bacchanal is set for 1 to 5 p.m., with the auction beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Reservations for the event are $35 per person through Friday, Oct. 26, and $40 at the door. Guests will receive commemorative wine and pint glasses and complimentary valet parking.

“An added bonus for Bacchanal 2007 patrons is a special offer by event sponsor, Baymont Inn and Suites,” said Bacchanal coordinator Jane Dudney Roberts.

The Baymont is offering a discounted rate of $65 for the evening of Oct. 28 for a standard double or standard king room.

“The Baymont has been a huge supporter of the Bacchanal scholarship program for years — the offer of room discounts is a generous addition to perks for event patrons,” Roberts said.

“TTU and the Appalachian Center for Craft art programs have continued to grow in recent years. Fortunately, the Bacchanal scholarship program has too,” said Ward Doubet, Craft Center director and Bacchanal Committee chairperson. “In 2008, we’ll be able to grant six $1,500 scholarships, up from the previous four $1,000 annual awards.

“By attending the Bacchanal, people not only get to enjoy the lavish food, wine and beer tasting, but they also participate in a great tradition of supporting emerging artists in this region,” Doubet added.

“The Bacchanal would not be nearly so successful without its dedicated artists, donors and sponsors,” Roberts said.

Underwriters for this year’s event include Derek and Diana Baranowski, Dr. Melvin Rapelyea and Swallows-Newman Insurance Agency. The 2007 sponsors are Advanced Graphics, Baymont Inn and Suites, Budweiser of Cookeville, Chartwells at TTU, Leslie Town Centre, Magic 98.5, Ted McWilliams, Merchandise Express and Party Rentals, Spankies Restaurant and Spring Creek Pie Co.
