Bacchanal celebrates 10th anniversary of providing TTU scholarships

The Bacchanal scholarship fundraiser for Tennessee Tech University and Appalachian Center for Craft art and fine craft students has become an annual tradition at Spankies Restaurant in Cookeville — and this year’s event offers an even greater reason not to miss it.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Bacchanal — featuring wine and beer tasting, a decadent cocktail buffet and a live auction of art and fine craft — which will be held this year from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, with the auction beginning at 2:30.

“The Bacchanal keeps getting bigger, better and more fun,” said Ward Doubet, Craft Center director and Bacchanal Committee chairman.

“The event has evolved over the years, and we are thrilled to see continued growth in attendance, donated work by regional artists and, of course, increases in the number and monetary amounts of the scholarships the event provides to our students,” he continued.

Planning for the Bacchanal has been underway for several months, but it really heats up in the summer as the event nears, says Jane Dudney Roberts, promotions and development manager at the Craft Center and Bacchanal coordinator.

“We have a great planning committee, many of whom have been working with the Bacchanal scholarship event for years,” she said.

Guests will receive complimentary wine glasses, and free valet parking will be available.
Reservations are $35 per person in advance (through Friday, Oct. 6) and $40 per person at the door.

“The Bacchanal is the perfect opportunity to experience and take home some of the premiere art and fine craft being produced in our artist-rich region,” Roberts said.
