The Cookeville Area Transit System will be running a special fixed route on May 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency has designed a TTU Graduation Route that will run from the bus hub at UCHRA through town stopping at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ and taking people to Hooper Eblen Center on Tennessee Tech Campus.
“We want to alleviate some of the parking on Tech campus by giving people the option to park other places in town and ride the new fixed route bus system to the commencement ceremony,” Phyllis Bennett, UCHRA executive director said.
The idea behind this is to allow people to park at the UCHRA bus hub, Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ, Walnut Avenue, or various areas around Tech campus to ride the bus to and from the commencement ceremony at Hooper Eblen Center.
The buses will have three main stops on the TTU Graduation Route, UCHRA bus hub, Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ, and Hooper Eblen Center in that order. The bus will continue the loop by traveling south on Walnut Avenue returning to the UCHRA bus hub to begin the route again. Walnut Avenue and Tech campus will be considered flag down areas, which allow people to park anywhere in these areas and flag the bus down.
The TTU Graduation Route running from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be a free service. Check the lighted marquee on the front of the bus for route name. At 1 p.m. one of the CATS buses will start the regular Saturday, Green Route.
