The German Klub at Tennessee Tech University is bringing a taste of German culture to campus by celebrating Oktoberfest from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, in the Tech Pride Room of the Roaden University Center.

Tickets must be purchased in advance. The cost is $6 for students and $8 for non-students. The ticket covers a full dinner of sausage, sauerkraut, potato salad, bread, drink and apple strudel.

Students may purchase tickets in advance for $6 in South Hall 231 beginning Monday, Oct. 15. Advance tickets for non-students will be available from Thursday, Oct. 18. In the past, tickets have sold out quickly, and none will be available at the door.

Entertainment will include arm wrestling, tongue twisters and a yodel contest. German chocolates will be on sale at the event.

Oktoberfest is one of the main fundraisers for TTU’s German Klub, which sponsors field trips and other cultural awareness events throughout the year.

Oktoberfest is a beer festival that originated in Munich in 1810. It runs from late September to the first weekend in October, with its schedule determined each year by the timing of German Unity Day. More than 5 million people attend the Munich festival every year, and other cities worldwide hold Oktoberfest celebrations as well. More than 85 percent of all guests are tourists, and about 7 million liters of German beer are typically served during the Munich festival alone. There will be no alcohol at TTU’s Oktoberfest.
