Charles Wilkerson is TTU's new director of International Student AffairsTennessee Tech University’s Office of International Student Affairs has a new director.
Charles Wilkerson was selected for the position, and his post became effective earlier this month.
A native of Greeneville, Tenn., Wilkerson is a former administrator of San Francisco’s Intrax, the nation’s second largest English language program as of August 2002, where he supervised about 45 employees, 10 office staff members and several hundred students.
“I’m excited to be selected for this position because this is such a great place to live and work, and I hope to help inspire many positive improvements in international affairs on campus,” he said.
Wilkerson earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts with a concentration in Japanese from the West Virginia branch of the Japanese Teikyo University and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in teaching English to speakers of other languages from the University of Tennessee.
At TTU, Wilkerson says he plans to be proactive in recruiting greater numbers of international students by streamlining application processes as much as possible, improving the department’s web site and advocating for the students.
