Clarinet Choir Day set for Jan. 23

thumb_Clarinet_Choir_Photo2The music and art department at Tennessee Tech University hosts its fifth annual Clarinet Choir Day on Saturday, Jan. 23, ending with a free, public concert.

Each year, about 50 clarinetists – students from middle school, high school and college along with TTU alumni and community members – meet to enjoy a fun day of music. Paul Thurmond and Tanner Hunt will lead the group.

The public performance is 3 p.m. in Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building. The event features special guest Katie Belvin, a TTU graduate who recently received a doctorate of musical arts from the University of Georgia. She and TTU clarinet professor Anne Thurmond will perform a concerto by Franz Krommer. Other works to be performed include the Sinfonia from the Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach, a Nocturne by Alexander Borodin, "Clarinetwork" by Lennie Niehaus, and a new arrangement by Paul Thurmond of "Wave" by Antonio Carlos Jobim.
