A recent nominee for the national Windgate Fellowship, Decareaux finds her inspiration in the interweaving of craft and technology. The show, whose title is a Cajun saying that means “don't give up,” references the ties she feels toward her Louisiana upbringing. Scenes from her childhood memories are created out of manipulated fabric that is enhanced by light, motion and site recorded sound.
“I'm really interested in collaboration and in furthering the marriage of fiber and technology,” says Decareaux. “Overall, I want to make magic happen.”
A reception for the artist will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. and is open to the public.
The Appalachian Center for Craft is conveniently located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273 (Smithville /McMinnville). Go south on Hwy. 56; turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Craft Center.
