E-Week 2005 offers fun, education and competitionEngineering students across campus are looking forward to a week of competition and recognition during Engineers’ Week Feb. 21-27, but this year’s activities will reach beyond campus to inform and entertain local high school students who may be future TTU students.
During E-Week, a nationally celebrated event in honor of engineers and the contributions they make to our quality of life, students representing each engineering major will make a presentation to groups of Cookeville High School students interested in engineering and technology. The TTU students will talk about their experiences as engineering majors and offer an overview of their clubs and organizations.
“I hope our students will develop an idea of what opportunities are available to them in college, what to do to prepare to be successful and what the curriculum will be like,” said Don Sadler, Putnam County Schools’ director of career and technical education.
As many as 50 high school students will tour campus and the College of Engineering plus take part in the week’s Scavenger Hunt, according to Tamara Trotter, vice president of communications for TTU’s Engineering Joint Council.
“We want the high school students to learn a lot about what it’s like to be an engineering major, but we also want them to enjoy themselves and get to know us,” said Trotter.
The TTU Engineering Joint Council again will host a competition among the six departments within the college of engineering, and the major with the most points by the end of the week wins the coveted “Best Darn Major” award.
Many of the events will entertain the campus community while promoting competition. The current schedule of events includes an egg launch and a paper airplane contest.
