Explore Middle Eastern rhythms, American jazz at TTU
The original form of American improvisation, jazz, and taksim, its Middle Eastern counterpart, will come together under the talents and rhythms of Souren Baronian.
Baronian, an ethnic Armenian, grew up in Spanish Harlem, where he combined his heritage with his surroundings. His music applies jazz vocabulary and sensibilities to traditional Middle Eastern instruments, including the oud, dubek and dumbek. His band has been critically acclaimed in Downbeat and Boston Herald Americana magazines.
Sponsored by TTU’s Center Stage, the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, in Wattenbarger Auditorium in the Bryan Fine Arts Building, 1150 N. Dixie Ave. It is free and open to the public.
