Fables and fairy tales serve as inspiration for artist’s work
Matthew Williams’ senior thesis exhibition “Nothing Beats a Fox” is being shown April 20 through April 26 in Gallery One of the Appalachian Center for Craft. A reception is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 24, in the Gallery One lobby.
“Fables and fairy tales are an important inspiration for my work; they were a big part of what I read as a child,” Williams said. His work comes from the mood created by fairy tale characters and the lessons learned. He also draws inspiration from childhood memories of playing in the local park and uses ducks and foxes as symbols of the every day human struggle.
The Appalachian Center for Craft is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273 (Smithville /McMinnville). Go south on Highway 56; turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Craft Center. The gallery is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
