Faculty trumpet recital Jan. 19
Tennessee Tech University trumpet professor Charles Decker presents a free recital at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.
The program continues the Trumpet Festival 2009-10 concert series celebrating the art of trumpet performance. The series of 12 concerts features faculty and students in solo and ensemble performances.
Joining Decker is pianist Joy Rachor, music director at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Cookeville, saxophone professor Phil Barham, and students from the trumpet studio at TTU.
The program showcases music by European and American composers including the TTU premiere of Greg Danner’s “Rhapsody.” Danner is professor of composition and the recipient of numerous composition awards. Also on the program is “Concerto” by Italian baroque composer Veracini and “Concerto for Trumpet and Saxophone” by French composer Paul Rivier.
The virtuosic solo “Southern Cross” by Herbert L. Clarke, solo cornetist with the legendary Sousa Band is featured. Concluding the program is trumpet ensemble music by Scheidt and Bernstein performed by students with Decker.
Decker says about the concert, “It is a pleasure to share the stage with faculty colleagues and exciting to give the TTU premiere of Greg Danner’s newest composition for trumpet. The program has a variety of music ranging from baroque to an orchestral work transcribed for large trumpet ensemble.”
