Meet Santa, find unique gifts for everyone on your holiday shopping list and avoid the Black Friday crowds at the Appalachian Center for Craft at Tennessee Tech University Holiday Festival.

The weekend after Thanksgiving, Craft Center faculty, artists in residence and local artists will sell their work and be on hand to give demonstrations. Shoppers can also enjoy the Redbud Café’s special holiday menu and try their hands at creating art themselves.

For the first time this year, children will be able to visit and get photos taken with Santa from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They can also create a card using the photo and refreshments will be available for participating children.

The Craft Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.

Artists will give demonstrations in woodturning, basketry, dollmaking, quilting, painting, ceramics, metal smithing and glass blowing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be guided tours of the studios during that time.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., visitors can sign up for workshops to learn to make glass beads or to marble a scarf. The workshops start at 10 a.m. and cost $20. They are sponsored by the Friends of the Appalachian Center for Craft, and proceeds support outreach programs for students in fifth through 12th grade.

The galleries will be full of fine art, including the metal studio’s pentannual exhibition in Gallery One. The show includes a range of items forged at the Craft Center, ranging from jewelry to knives.

The Craft Center will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Monday, Dec. 23. It will reopen Thursday, Jan. 2.

The Craft Center is located approximately six miles off Interstate 40 at exit 273, Smithville/McMinnville. Go south on state Route 56 and turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Craft Center.
