Hesse is a graduate of the prestigious Eastman School of Music and went on to become a member of the United States Military Academy Band at West Point, one of the country’s premiere professional bands.
He has also performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic and at Colorado’s Music in the Mountains Festival. He’s toured with the Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band and performed as solo cornetist two professional bands, Great Western Rocky Mountain Band and Yankee Brass Band.
For 12 years, he served as artistic director for the Showcase Concert Series in Farmington, N.M., and is a founding member of the chamber group Brassworks 4, which has toured throughout the United States and recorded several compact discs and radio programs.
Hesse also has a 20-year history performing in European orchestras as a member of the Norwegian State Opera and Ballet Orchestra and is a former faculty member of the Norwegian Music Conservatory.
He’s also taught at the Universities of Illinois and Kentucky, and his new book, Perfecting Your Practice for Peak Performance, has received critical acclaim and use in university trumpet studios.
