House family establishes TTU nursing scholarship to honor parents’ 50th anniversary
In celebrating their parents’ anniversary, the Houses established a scholarship fund at Tennessee Tech University for upper division nursing students who have financial need.
“We wanted to set up something that will outlast our family and honor our parents, who have given the greatest gifts of all, love and genuine interest,” said daughter Jenny Lee House Maffett, an assistant professor in nursing at TTU.
Maffett and her siblings, Patrick Dosson House, Martha House Brasek and Mary Beth House, wanted to honor their parents by establishing a means of helping future nurses get an education at Tennessee Tech.
“Our parents raised us on Christian values and with a sense of adventure,” said Maffett. “Through their own lives and example, they taught us that life is to be lived, that hard work pays off, and that an education will expand your own life and your ability to give to others, and that all glory belongs to God.”
During careers establishing communication infrastructure, Douglas and Dinah House moved their family throughout the Southeast, forging friendships while taking time to explore regional areas of interest.
