John Wells annual organ recital set for March 22

thumb_JohnWellsJoin Tennessee Tech University physics professor emeritus John Wells for his annual guest organ recital at 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 22 at Wattenbarger Auditorium located inside the Bryan Fine Arts Building.

Wells, who taught physics at TTU for 36 years including a course in the acoustics of music, will be joined by Paul Thurmond on piano and Angela Bayne on harp. Thurmond, on the adjunct piano faculty and a staff accompaniest at TTU, is the organist and choir director at First Presbyterian Church. Bayne is a Cookeville harpist who also was formerly a missionary in Russia.

Their program includes selections by Bach, Buxtehude, Ives, Mendelssohn, Peeters and Parker Ramsay.

Wells studied piano and organ at Florida Southern College with Paul Goodman and organ at Florida State University with Ramona Beard. He has presented recitals in Tennessee, Florida and Washington, D.C., and has served as a church organist and pianist for many years. He is a member of the Nashville Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. His interests include the physics of music, especially the physical acoustics of musical instruments, and auditorium acoustics.
