Tunes 4 the Troops, a non-profit venture to deliver new and used CDs and DVDs to troops stationed abroad, will partner with Tennessee Tech University and other volunteers for a “packing party” this Saturday.
Tunes 4 the Troops’ founder Kaylee Marie Radzyminski, a TTU Army ROTC cadet and engineering student, began her efforts at the age of 15. Radzyminski, a Cleveland, Tenn., native, is networking with TTU’s Extended Programs and Regional Development and the Service Learning Center to gain support for her cause.
The first supported effort will be a packing party to send more than 40,000 new and used CDs and DVDs along with MP3 players and iPods to war zones, including Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and the Horn of Africa. The event will take place at Cleveland High School on Saturday at 8 a.m. until all the boxes are shipped.
More than 200 boxes are expected to be sent out by Radzyminski, Tennessee Tech students, faculty and alumni, Lee University students, Cleveland Community College students, Rotary members, Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine recruiters along with members of the Cleveland community. The event is open to any one wanting to help. Donations of money as well as CDs and DVDs also will be accepted that day.
The packing party is expected to bring the total sent items since 2005 to almost 700,000, with an estimated value of more than $12 million.
