Make plans for Craft Center's Holiday Festival
Have a stress-free holiday experience and enjoy the Annual Holiday Festival at Tennessee Tech’s Appalachian Center for Craft the weekend following Thanksgiving – Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 27 through 29 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Bring the family and experience craft demonstrations, showcase exhibitions, live jazz by John Richards, specialty ornaments, one-of-a-kind gifts, and more.

This year’s craft demonstrations include glassblowing, weaving, woodturning and carving, basket making, and more. See the demonstrations from during the festival.

Relax and shop for everyone on your list while enjoying live music by regional jazz favorite, John Richards from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., daily. The Gallery, features the work of 100+ regional artists and includes a wide range of functional and decorative fine craft from jewelry and handmade furniture to pottery, hand-blown glass, textiles and wearables, specialty ornaments, books, craft supplies, and more.

“Our Holiday Festival has become my favorite time of year at the Craft Center,” said Gail Looper, gallery manager at the Appalachian Center for Craft. “I love opening work that artists send us at we prepare for the event – always wonderful, new and exciting pieces. We have such a range of unique and beautiful items perfect for any holiday budget.”

TTU employees receive a 10 percent discount for purchases in the Craft Center’s gallery during the festival and throughout the year, with a valid Eagle ID Card.

The exhibitions showcased during the 2009 festival include Hot Glass, functional and sculptural art-glass by the Craft Center’ glass department; and, Craft Center Focused, representing work by Craft Center alumni, faculty, artists in residence, students and other affiliated artists.

“Don’t miss the Hot Glass exhibition in Gallery One,” said Sarah McClary, artist in residence in the Craft Center’s exhibitions program and TTU graduate with a bachelor of fine arts degree concentration in metals. “The show highlights the new work of our advanced students in the glass program and features some incredible new work from that studio. And, the work in Gallery Two, is an exciting range of work in all craft media by a variety artists.”

Stop by the Craft Center’s on-site restaurant, the walkway café, for scones and coffee, and homemade soups, deli sandwiches, fresh salads, and tasty treats.

If busy holiday schedules keep you from the festival, the Craft Center’s gallery and exhibitions are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Wednesday, Dec. 23.

The Appalachian Center for Craft is conveniently located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273 (Smithville/McMinnville). Go south on Hwy. 56; turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Craft Center.
