Make reservations by Jan. 22 for TTU alumni events in New York CityWhether or not you made it to Times Square to see the ball drop for the new year, Tennessee Tech University alumni and supporters have two other reasons to visit the Big Apple this month.
Lark Mason, a TTU graduate and an appraiser on PBS’s classic Antiques Roadshow television series, hosts a cocktail reception at his New York townhouse on Saturday, Jan. 27, while the Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble makes its unprecedented seventh Carnegie Hall appearance on Sunday, Jan. 28.
“Both of these events promise to be a lot of fun for TTU supporters and alumni,” said Tracey Duncan, director of Alumni Relations. “Anyone who’s planning to attend either or both, however, needs to try to make reservations with our office by Jan. 22.”
Mason, who formerly appraised for Sotheby’s and is considered an expert in Chinese art, recently served as grand marshal of TTU’s Homecoming parade in November. He hosted a popular appraisal fair on campus the day prior to the parade.
The cocktail reception he and his wife, Erica, will be hosting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 will be held at 1400 5th Ave., Townhouse E-2, which is located near Central Park North at 5th Avenue and 115th Street.
The TTTE’s 40th anniversary all-star alumni ensemble will perform at 1:30 p.m. on the following day, Jan. 28, in the Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, located at 154 W. 57th St.
The show will include nine newly commissioned pieces that were premiered on campus at the group’s 40th anniversary celebration this past November.
Composers whose works will be featured include David Baker, John Cheetham, TTU’s own Gregory Danner, Martin Ellerby, Eric Ewazen, TTU graduate Aldo Rafael Forte, Adam Gorb, Tony Plog and Grammy and Pulitzer Prize winner Gunther Schuller.
A reception following the concert will be held in the Rohatyn Room, and the cost to attend both the show and reception is $20.
