Memorial scholarship honoring former Baxter Mayor Delton Dyal being established at TTU

A prominent Putnam County businessman and political figure has been memorialized with a scholarship endowment at Tennessee Tech University.

Former Baxter Mayor Delton Dyal died earlier this year, but his legacy continues with the Delton Dyal Memorial Scholarship.

Plans are to select the first scholarship recipient during the 2009-2010 school year, but in order to meet this goal, the endowment must be fully funded for one year, as of September 30. Donations to the fund are welcomed.

Dyal graduated from TTU in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Prior to enrolling at TTU, he attended Warren County High School.

He spent much of his career in manufacturing accounting and worked for local manufacturing companies such as FFM, Aqua Tech, Oster, TRW and Flowserve.

Along with his manufacturing career, he served two terms as Mayor of Baxter. He was also a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon.

Dyal is survived by his wife of 32 years, the former Cindy Medley, a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Dustin Loftis, a sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Jim Robinson, and parents, Ernest and Juanita Dyal of Baxter.

The scholarship will be awarded each fall to a TTU senior from Putnam County who demonstrates financial need.

Donations can be made by check, which should be made payable to the TTU Foundation and indicated for the Delton Dyal Memorial Scholarship on the memo line.

To make a donation by credit card, visit www.tntech.edu, click on the ‘Giving to TTU’ link, then click on ‘Begin Online Gift Process’ link and in section two designate Delton Dyal Memorial Scholarship in the ‘Other’ box.
