Michael Lambert, a public safety officer, went above and beyond his duties during one of this past winter's snowstorms to help a student in a wheelchair traverse the snowy sidewalks.

"During the winter storm, a student in a wheelchair was attempting to travel on the sidewalk along University Drive," wrote nominator Jim Cobb, director of Safety & Environmental Services. According to Cobb, the sidewalk had been scraped but there was still some snow and ice making it difficult for the student to move the wheelchair. Lambert pushed the student through the snow from Prescott Hall to the Roaden University Center.

"I am not surprised as Officer Lambert is an excellent employee who is willing to go the extra mile," Cobb continued. A photo of this kind act was taken by another university employee who sent it to several people on campus. After seeing the photo, Cobb said, one employee remarked, "This is why I live in Cookeville and work at Tech."

Lambert has been with the university since November 2005.
