Phil Barham to present faculty saxophone recital on Oct. 30

Tennessee Tech University will present a faculty saxophone recital by Phillip Barham on Monday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wattenbarger Auditorium. Admission is free, and the recital is open to the public.

Pianist Paul Thurmond will accompany Barham.

The recital will begin with “Cinq danses exotiques” by French composer Jean Francaix, a collection of South American-influenced dances.

Next is a “Concerto for soprano saxophone” by English composer David Heath. It’s a three-movement composition heavily influenced by Celtic themes.

Third on the program are “Huit airs autour du tango” by Argentine composer and pianist Gustavo Beytelmann. They are a set of eight short pieces combining jazz, tango and contemporary music.

The last piece on the program is “Klonos” by Belgium musician Piet Swerts.
