thumb anis-mojganiTwo-time National Poetry Slam champion and winner of the International World Cup Poetry Slam Anis Mojgani will demonstrate his talents at Tennessee Tech University this week.

Mojgani, who visited campus several years ago, will perform at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18. His performance will be preceded by a writing workshop at 4:30 p.m. and a reception and book signing at 5:45 p.m. All three events are open to the public and will be at the Backdoor Playhouse in the Jere Whitson Building.

“In my several years of producing Center Stage literary and music events, I have never had a group of devoted student-poets pester me so much to bring an author to campus,” said Andrew Smith, TTU English instructor. “That a poet of the national slam scene has such a devoted following in a small town like Cookeville testifies to the real miracle of Mojgani's genre-pushing, boundary-breaking work."

Mojgani was born in New Orleans but lives in Austin, Texas. He has spoken at TEDx, the community-sponsored version of the international TED talks seminar series, and is a former resident of the Oregon Literary Arts Writers-in-the-Schools program. He has performed in front of the United Nations and his work has appeared on HBO and NPR, among others.

His visit is co-sponsored by TTU’s Center Stage and the Living Writers Project.
