Putnam County’s Jared receives award from TTU

thumb Rachel_JaredRachel Jared, of Cookeville, received the Raymond Drost Memorial Endowed Scholarship from Tennessee Tech University’s exercise science, physical education and wellness department this spring.

Jared, daughter of Bennett and Kristi Jared, is a junior at TTU. She has placed among the top runners in several half-marathons in the area and received the Upward Basketball Christ-Like Award in 2004. When she is not learning about or teaching other people how to exercise, Jared is exercising herself. She also enjoys reading, playing guitar and spending time with her family.

The scholarship is awarded to an EXPW major with a grade point average of at least 2.75 who is in good standing with the university and be an active participant in intramural sports.

Drost was TTU’s intramurals director and an assistant football coach. He is a member of the university’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
