Ten teams from Tennessee Tech will put their gumbo to test at Putnam County's Habitat for Humanity's featured annual fundraiser, "Cooking on the Square."

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the courthouse square, a $20 donation will allow attendees to choose a handmade bowl and sample all-you-can-eat specialty gumbo and other offerings, including vegetarian dishes. Bread, desserts and drinks are included in the price.

"I'm hoping others from TTU come out and support those who are cooking," said Suzann Hensley, assistant director of campus recreation and cook team chairperson.

"We have a record number of cook teams this year—68—and Mother Nature appears to have decided to give us the perfect day for hot spicy gumbo—sunny and 55 degrees," said Hensley.

TTU teams include

o Tecta/Shellie Willis

o EXPW/Christy Killman

o Extended Education/D.D.Tennant

o Student Athlete Advisory Comm/Amanda Thatcher

o Financial Aid/Adriane King & Polly Burns

o Campus Rec-Intramrals/Jerry Keeton

o Chartwells/Victor Klein & Sam Holm

o Residential Life/Charlie Macke

o TTU Habitat Chapter/Kim Manning

o Independence Program/Vanessa Johnson

The single entrance to this year's event will be located on Broad Street at the northwest corner of the courthouse in front of Poets.
