Schabert inducted into MSU Athletics Hall of DistinctionRob Schabert, Tennessee Tech University's assistant athletic director for sports information and broadcasting, was recently inducted into Minnesota State University, Mankato, Athletics Hall of Distinction. The honor recognizes people who have made significant contribution and/or brought honor to MSU Athletics.
Schabert served as MSU's first full-time sports information director from 1977-81. At MSU he produced 26 award-winning publications and oversaw public relations during a nickname transition. He assisted with radio broadcasts, coordinated game program advertising sales, arranged media coverage, served as staff photographer, provided statistical support for every MSU team, Schabert joined Tennessee Tech after leaving MSU.
At TTU for 27 years, Schabert is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, currently serving on the Olympic Liaison Committee. Voted winner of the university's Outstanding Professional Award in 2004, he has won dozens of national publication and writing awards, including "Best in the Nation" six times from USA Volleyball for his annual media guide.
Schabert created TTU's Athletic Director's Honor Roll and initiated the President's Award program. He also established the department's Woman of the Year/Man of the Year awards along with Outstanding Male and Female Athlete awards.A Minnesota native, he earned his bachelor's degree in mass communications from St. Cloud State University.
