Sculpture exhibit on display at Derryberry Gallery thorugh March 13An exhibit of ceramic sculpture by Aaron Lee Benson will be on display from Feb. 16 through March 13 in the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery. Benson is the chairman and professor of fine arts in sculpture and ceramics at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. Benson has received several public commissions including work for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. His works have been on display throughout the country. Benson’s large-scale architectural forms and figurative, narrative monoliths were inspired by hiking trips in Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico.
The Verdehr Trio will perform a concert on Monday, February 16, at 7:30 p.m.
There will be a University Orchestra Concert on Tuesday, February 17, at 7:30 p.m.
The Spring Trumpet Festival will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 7:30 p.m.
Alex Sears will hold a bass trombone senior recital on Friday, February 20, at 7:30 p.m.
There will be a Third Coast Percussion concert on Saturday, February 21, at 3 p.m.
Hannah Shoopman will hold her junior recital on Saturday, February 21, at 7 p.m.
Center Stage Events
Toby Foyeh and Orchestra Africa will present “Harmony: People of African Origin” on Tuesday, February 17, at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room.
Appalachian Center for Craft
Sandy Webster’s mixed media sculpture exhibit, “Remains,” will be on display in Gallery Two until February 21.
Donovan Widmer’s metal exhibit, “Pardon My Skepticism,” will be on display in the North Windows Gallery until March 10.
Eliana Arenas’s mixed media exhibit, “Absense,” will be on display in Gallery One from February 20 until March 27.
The Appalachian Center for Craft is located six miles off Hwy. 56 (Interstate 40, Exit 273) near Smithville. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the University Center and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
